How can drawing help us learn science? i’m Jennifer Landin, an assistant professor of biology in the College of Sciences at NC State. For me, science and drawing have always gone together, so as I would learn about nature or organisms I would want to draw it to record my experience and my appreciation. In order to create something you have to really understand it. So I think learning biology through drawing is an incredibly important method because there’s this adage in biology that form follows function and so if you understand the form you can figure out that function. Biology students do go on to use this. It becomes a skill, like a tool in the toolbox. I bring science to life through drawing. That’s how I think and do at NC State.
