How Do Astronauts Brush Their Teeth in Space

And now – brushing the teeth. I get my toothpaste out, my toothbrush… Carefully – same as on Earth – I apply some toothpaste onto the brush… Put toothpaste away, so it doesn’t fly around… Then I get a bit of water out of this special pack.. And let’s begin! We brush in circular motion, same as back on Earth, then use a dry tissue to remove excess paste, which is then carefully discarded. After that we rinse with a bit of water… now this is a wet tissue, so we don’t throw it away. It is placed here onto a ventilation grid to dry. There’s a water circulation cycle here on the station – our water recovery system recycles it for further use.
