Backpack buddies

This is the
15th year we’ve done our freshmen orientation trip.
Everyone say hi. It’s a week-long backpacking trip on the Appalachian
Trail right before school begins. Before we head out to Tennessee we want to make
sure all of our students get to know each other and really start to bond as a
team so we heading out to our challenge course to do a low ropes course so we
can work through some problem solving or trust or leadership or group
opportunities so the group can get to know each other a little more.
I’ve never gone hiking before so I was like really uncertain what I was getting
myself into. The next day we head
down to Tennessee while we’re down there we will be four days
backpacking on the Appalachian Trail and then one day doing trail maintenance
with the Eastman Hiking Club and also the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. It was
really awesome like the second day was kind of hard because a lot of it was
like uphill when you got to the top it was so rewarding with the beautiful view
and you just felt so good because you had accomplish that. The views are
really really really pretty and you just have fun with everyone that’s there. It’s
a great introduction to what the Outdoor Resource Center does for Wright State
students and a great way for these incoming freshmen to meet new friends
and to meet people they’re going to be going to school with to meet people who
they’re going to be living with and hanging out on campus. It was really nice
because they gave me a group of friends before I got to college so I knew
people here. We have so many opportunities for students to get
involved right before school starts they even have this opportunity to kind of
kick-start their community service involvement or involvement with Student
Affairs or clubs just be excited for new opportunities.
